Devon residents awarded in King's News Years Honours

Eleven people recognised

Some residents from across Devon have been named in the King’s 2025 New Years Honours List.

Eleven people from across the county are being recognised for their services to various different sectors. 

Actor Carey Mulligan, who has starred in films including Great Gatsby has been given a CBE for her services to the Drama sector.

The actress has won British Academy Film Awards, in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award, lives on the outskirts of Exeter. 

Elsewhere, an OBE has been awarded to Dr Matthew Craig Hort, who is a  Principal Fellow, Atmospheric Dispersion and Air Quality, at the Met Office in Devon. 

He has played leading roles in national and international working groups and task teams in understanding and developing capabilities to deal with risks and emergency events.

Steven John Wearne from Torquay has received an OBE for services to to Public Health Protection and to International Food Safety at the Foods Standards Agency.

Marlyn Catherine Hookings. For services to the community in Torquay, Devon. (Torquay, Devon) [MBE]

Katherine Friedrich. Founder, People Assisting Torbay's Homeless. For services to Tackling Homelessness in Torbay, Devon. (Paignton, Devon) [MBE]

Rosemary Howell DL. For services to Girlguiding and to the community in Devon. (Ivybridge, Devon) [MBE]

Kenneth White. Co-Founder and Trustee, Supershoes. For services to Children and Young People with Paediatric Cancer. (Torrington, Devon) [MBE]

Sarah Louise White. Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Supershoes. For services to Children and Young People with Paediatric Cancer. (Torrington, Devon) [MBE]
