Devon county council has given a cautious welcome to a Government funding announcement for road repairs saying that it will only scratch the surface.
The department for transport yesterday announced £3.2 million for the county's roads as part of a pot hole fund for next year, that's enough to fix over 60,200 pot holes.
A spokesperson for Devon county council welcomed the cash, but says that they need more in order to repair the 8,000 miles of road in the county; the biggest road network of any local authority in the country.
Currently Devon's Highways needs around £55 million a year to maintain the current condition of our roads, but that in real terms they only have £23 million to spend.
The County Council say they will prioritise pothole repairs after the latest round of funding was announced by consulting with local councillors to target problem areas.
