Campaigners fighting to save an Exeter pub have been celebrating after the city council's planning committee rejected proposals to build a supermarket on the site. The Queen's Head has a loyal band of regular customers from the local community, and
The Queen's Head at Polsloe Bridge was sold to the Farm Foods chain last year and the company's application for the supermarket went before city councillors yesterday evening.
After hearing that the pub has a loyal band of regular customers from the local community, and the landlords have been hoping to keep it going and develop it into a B&B, they rejected the proposal unanimously, on the grounds that they would lead to the loss of a community facility.
Farm Foods will not be appealing against the decision, and it's understood that they will come to an arrangement with the landlords which will enable the pub to stay open and be redeveloped.
