Cops open up shift to social media followers

Force will show demands on Plymouth duo

Devon and Cornwall Police are opening up their social media channels to allow people to observe a Plymouth shift this coming week.

From 5 p.m. able to follow the work of the two officers via the hashtag #DCPoliceLIVE on Twitter (@DC_Police), Facebook (Devon and Cornwall Police) and Instagram (@dc_police) with regular updates shared throughout the shift, right up until 2 a.m. 

Last week alone, the force recorded 5,665 calls to 999 and 12,174 non-emergency contacts which resulted in 4,626 incidents requesting police attendance and 2,006 crimes recorded. 

Chief superintendent Matt Longman, BCU Commander for Plymouth, said: “Many people may never come into contact with policing services, but it is important that our residents understand the demands facing officers every day. 

“We know from the popularity of police television documentaries that members of the public enjoy getting a better understanding of the work of the police and we’re keen to highlight what typically happens in a busy shift for our officers responding to 999 calls here in Devon and Cornwall. 

“I’m very proud of the work of our dedicated teams, and I hope members of the public will find this an interesting insight. I look forward to seeing your feedback on our social media accounts.”
