Amani Richards joins from Leicester on loan
Exeter City have announced the signing of highly-rated winger Amani Richards on a season-long loan from Premier League side Leicester City, subject to EFL approval.
The 19-year-old right sided attacker has scored three goals in three games for the Foxes Under-21s this season in the Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy – against fellow League One side Burton Albion - as well as providing one assist.
Richards joined Leicester from Arsenal in 2021, and made a huge impact in the academy scoring five times in just 13 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League. The following season saw him register an impeccable scoring record of 12 in 21 appearances as well as five assists.
In last season’s Premier League 2, Richards scored three in 19 with a further five assists.
Manager Gary Caldwell said: “His ability and his speed in the final third really caught out eye. We look at a number of under-21 players from different teams and his specific profile stood out in terms of what we are looking for.
“He showed recently against Burton in the BSM Trophy that he has the ability to hurt League One defenders. He looked dangerous in that game and we are delighted to bring him in and get him up to speed in the next two weeks.
“He isn’t a direct replacement – but he gives us some of the speed that we have lost from Yanic’s injury, and with Vinnie and Demi’s injury, Caleb to an extent – they are all one-v-one speed players we don’t have available at the moment.”
Amani will wear the number 21 shirt.
