Cash promised to improve 'unfit for purpose' police 101 service

A quarter of a million pounds is to be spent improving Devon and Cornwall police's non-emergency 101 phone line - after the discovery it's even worse than a year ago.

The police and crime commissioner Tony Hogg has ringfenced money to make it fit for purpose.

Callers currently wait an average of 8 minutes to be transferred to an enquiry centre - and then a further 10 minutes before being dealt with by a member of staff.
