WATCH: Pressures on large and small operators

As the new financial year begins, fewer passengers and rising fuel prices are putting bus services at risk.

National insurance contributions, paid by both employers and employees, have gone up by 1.25 percentage points.

Fuel is dramatically more costly than a few months ago.

And the pandemic has cut the number of people using buses.

That's a serious problem, for bus operators large and small.

Later in April, some services between Plymouth and Cornwall will be cut.

Stagecoach in Devon says further cuts are almost inevitable.
