Millbay Road car park being misused
Owners of a car park in Plymouth’s Millbay Road are planning to stop it being used as a “free for all” by installing barriers and a number recognition system.
They want to refurbish and alter the layout of the car park, which is north of the Moxy Hotel and includes 12 dedicated spaces for its guests.
Documents for Plymouth City Council outline how 12 electric charging points are planned, together upgraded access points from the car park to the recently upgraded Millbay Road and Bath Street.
Cumming and Co Architects on behalf of applicant Mark Taylor said: “Currently the car park is a free for all and it is suspected that people use it for long term parking to go on holiday.
“This proposal will hopefully remove this and bring the car parking more in line with the use for the hotel and the local area for which it was intended.”
The spaces for hotel guests will move to another part of the car park. The barrier and number recognition system will be controlled by an independent operator of the car park, in coordination with the hotel.
The applicant has made a pre-planning enquiry to see if planning permission is required and if it effects current planning consent relating to the Moxy Hotel which opened last year.
