Camaraderie of a services' life celebrated
More than 40,000 were thought to be at Plymouth's Armed Forces Day on Saturday to enjoy a day of activities, music and displays.
It marked the end of a week of celebrations and commemorations in the city, which began with a forces' flag ceremony at the Guildhall, and a rehabilitation triathlon hosted by the Royal Navy on Thursday.
A number of candidates standing for the two Plymouth seats at the general election took a few hours out from campaigning to mingle with the public without necessarily pressing them to vote in what they believe to be the right way on Thursday.
Radio Exe joined the action, sharing a flavour of the day with listeners through the morning.
Exmouth's Armed Forces Day event in the Strand was smaller but no less celebratory. Roy Davies, a Royal Marines' veteran advised young people thinking of a services' career, the choice would be a good one. "It's a good life," he said. "And you get off your social media and mobile phone all day, visit foreign places, make new friends and enjoy camaraderie."
