Experience opera for the first time at Plymouth's Drum with this powerful and intimate reimagining of Riders to the Sea.
This one-act tragedy explores grief and family within a close-knit fishing community haunted by loss at sea.
Through a blend of live performance, projections, and recorded sound, the production creates a truly visceral experience.
Inspired by J.M. Synge's original play and Vaughan Williams's 1930s musical setting, this production features a new chamber orchestration for oboe, clarinet, and accordion by composer and conductor Michael Betteridge.
This production is said to breaks down traditional barriers between performers and audience, giving equal agency to singers and instrumentalists.
*The performance lasts 65 minutes with no interval and is suitable for ages 12+.
