Join Kwame as he takes you on a journey to West Africa. Learn about the proverbs and meanings held in the ancient Adrinka symbols and use them to make your very own piece of Adinkra cloth to take away.
Adinkra are symbols from Ghana that represent concepts. They are used extensively in fabrics, logos and pottery and incorporated into architectural features. The symbols may be pretty, but they also convey ideas of traditional wisdom, aspects of life, and the environment and many are linked with ancient proverbs.
Kwame Bakoji-Hume is the Founder of African Activities. He was born into the drumming and herbalist tradition in Buipe, Ghana. Sponsored to advance his education at the Ghanatta college of arts in Accra, Kwame went on to become the artist in residence at the Centre for National Culture in Ghana.
