Union meets Royal Mail over Lympstone postman controversy

Royal Mail will today be asked to reverse its decision to allow a popular Lympstone postman to keep doing his round - even though a senior colleague was in line to take over.

The company agreed to let Ray Cope, who's been serving the village for 17 years, continue, at the request of local residents.

But local members of the Communication Workers Union objected, and are meeting Royal Mail representatives today to argue their case.

They say the senior colleague's right to the round is based on long-established company procedures, and breaching them would set a dangerous precedent.
