Southern League high-fliers stand in the way
Southern League Frome Town stand in Torquay United’s way as they look to make progress in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
The Gulls travel to Somerset to face the Robins, who are going well in the league’s First Division, knowing they will be in for a tough afternoon.
Apart from anything else, United face severe injury problems, with winger Jack Stobbs out for weeks after tearing his hamstring in the 3-1 win over Weymouth on Tuesday night.
He joins an ever-growing list of casualties at Plainmoor, although there are hopes that Tom Lapslie and Brad Ash, both of whom limped off on Tuesday, may have recovered from knocks in time to play at Frome.
Assistant manager Aaron Downes watched Frome’s recent 2-2 draw at Bishop’s Cleeve and knows they will be hard to beat.
“They’re a good footballing side,” he said. “They’re on good form and they’re doing very well in their league.
“It’s not going to be an easy game for us. They will be desperate to win it.
“And if it’s on after all this rain it’s going to be a heavy pitch.”
