Tiverton post office shuts because of flood damage

Closed for at least a week

Storms have led to Tiverton post office closing because of flooding.

The premises at Market Walk, Tiverton, which are owned by Mid Devon District Council, have electrical damage and a collapsed drain.

Now a full CCTV survey has to be carried out on the drains in that area by South West Water.

That's taking place on Monday 7 March and will be followed by remedial drain works on Friday.

In conjunction with this work, an electrical survey will be completed early next week to ensure the premises are safe to open again. Whilst these activities are ongoing the Post Office will need to remain closed.

Andrew Jarrett, deputy chief executive of the council, said:“Due to last week’s significant storm events, damage has been caused to the underground drainage pipes at Market Walk shopping precinct in Tiverton which requires immediate remedial action.

"Unfortunately, this has resulted in the temporary closure of the Post Office whilst these essential repair works are carried out. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
