Teen dies in unexplained circumstances

Two arrested on suspicion of drugs offences

A teenager has died at a property in the Devonport area of Plymouth in what police described as "unexplained" circumstances.

The 18-year year old was reported to have taken an unknown substance, and was declared dead at the scene in Keppel Street, Plymouth on Saturday morning.

Police were called by ambulance staff at around 9.30am following concern for the man. His next of kin have been informed.

A second man was taken to hospital as a precaution but has since been discharged.

Officers put a scene guard and cordon in place while emergency services attended, but this has since been removed.

Two men aged 20 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug.

Detective Sergeant Ed Carr said: “Our enquiries remain in the very early stages and our thoughts are with the young man's family and friends.

“At this time the death is being treated as unexplained and we are investigating to understand the full circumstances.

“I would urge everyone to bear in mind the risks of taking any unknown substance – you do not know what dangers they pose and what reaction you could have. It isn’t worth the risk.”

"We are aware of social media speculation about this incident, and we ask that the public refrain from contributing to this but if you have any information which may assist us, please get it touch.”

Anyone with any information that could help with enquiries, is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 207 of 25 January.
