    Rail fares hiked

Rail passengers travelling between Exeter and Exmouth are facing their second fare rise in three months.

It now costs 12 per cent more to cover the 11-mile journey than it did last summer.

Great Western Railway says it upped the fare as a one-off in September to fund half-hourly services on Sundays - after years of discussions with the Avocet Line Users Group.

The rail operator says today's increase is down to government policy, but will be used to improve the overnight sleeper service to and from London and introduce new intercity trains in Devon this summer.
