Devon station continues to soar
Devon's Radio Exe has more listeners than ever before.
More than 110,000 adults now turn to the station every month, according to new independent research conducted by IpsosMORI/RSMB.
The station's audience has more than doubled in just over two years.
Radio Exe is one of just a handful of commercial radio stations that have retained their independence, as others have closed local and regional studios, and it is now the only station, commercial or BBC, that broadcasts from Devon all day, every day.
Programme manager Ashley Jeary says: "It just proves there continues to be a market for local commercial radio, and although we can't expect the numbers to keep on rising every time, we'll take it while it does.
"We've invested more in local news, getting more stories to air than ever before, and run the Local Democracy Reporting Service in Devon, which is funded by the BBC and shows how the commercial and public sector can work together for the benefit of audiences and other media partners.
"And these figures also mean advertisers get a bigger bang for their buck."
In the past year, the station has also launched two new services on DAB digital radio and its app, Radio Exe Flashback, and a speech station Devoncast Radio.
And it is the lead partner in providing digital radio in Devon, welcoming other radio stations who wish to broadcast in the area to join the line up.
