PCC enters debate on police care for the mentally ill

Devon and Cornwall's police and crime commissioner is calling for Government action to reduce the need for officers to deal with people who have mental health problems.

The local force is changing its policy and will no longer hold them in police cells - but that can mean officers having to take them to hospital and wait until they can be admitted.

Tony Hogg says the NHS needs more funding so that it can do its job and look after these patients.
