A shortage of NHS nurses has led to the RD&E hospital spending more than £4.6 million on agency staff in the first six months of this year.
The latest figures published this morning show that the amount for the whole of last year was around £6 million.
Meanwhile the Devon Partnership NHS Trust has paid more than £2 million so far this year - the total for 2014 was £2.25 million.
