Specialist breast care facilities in new block

A new four-storey clinical ‘hub’ building at Torbay Hospital is likely to be given the go-ahead next week.

Some existing buildings will be knocked down to make way for the new structure, which will include specialist breast-care facilities.

Torbay Council's planning committee is being recommended to approve the proposal.

It will hear that a number of old buildings on the hospital's campus, many of which are three-storey residential units for staff dating from the 1980s, are no longer needed.

No parking spaces will be lost and no public objections have been received to the proposal.

Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, says the existing breast-care department is spread across two buildings and multiple floors, and some rooms are not fit for purpose.

Some laboratories are in portable buildings and are also considered unfit for purpose. These facilities will move into the new building.
