New ambulance service covers whole of South West

A new ambulance service for the whole south west of England is up and running following the merger of two ambulance trusts.

The new South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust covers the area from the far west of Cornwall to the eastern borders of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire - and will give emergency treatment to about two thousand people a day.

Fears have been expressed about losing touch with local needs, but the new Trust says it's retaining local leadership and links with communities.
