MP to chair inquiry into dangerous dogs

There's to be a parliamentary inquiry into the way police deal with dangerous dogs - in response to the case of the pit bull Stella which was kept in a pen for two years because she was too aggressive to be let out.

The MP for Tiverton and Honiton Neil Parish chairs a committee of MPs who'll look into the issue.

Devon and Cornwall police say they confiscated Stella from an owner who had 40 previous convictions and had used the dog as a weapon to attack police - and that their assessment of her was backed up by experts.

They say animal welfare is a top priority and the case of Stella was highly unusual.
