
Racially aggravated rant too
A Barnstaple man's been arrested on suspicion of assault grevious bodily harm with intent and racially aggravated public order after an assault on a man with a broken bottle.
The attack took place in Mill Street, Bideford, close to the Co-op store, around 8.45pm on Thursday 9 July. The victim, in his twenties, was struck on the arm with the bottle after an argument with another man. He's been left with a serious cut to his arm. The suspect then allegedly subjected bystanders to racially abusive remarks. A 28-year-old man is on bail until Thursday 6 August.
Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident in Mill Street or overheard any of the words shouted.
It's the second attack with a bottle in Devon connected to a racist incident in the past month. In June, a 20-year-old Exeter man sustained facial injuries after being assaulted near Exmouth train station. Police are looking for a group of about eight people, including a bald, tattooed man with a beer belly in his thirties who spoke with an Irish accent.
