Plastic waste now being brought to shore by dedicated boat for recycling
An Exeter-based recycling company has paid for a boat to patrol the waters off South Devon to collect plastics that threaten the region's wildlife.
Based in Salcombe, the vessel, sponsored by Coastal Recycling and skippered by environmental entrepreneur Gary Jolliffe, will go round the south west coast collecting plastics and debris from creeks, caves and beaches. It will cover about 100 miles of coastline.
Called Till the Coast is Clear, the initiative aims to reduce the impact of plastic waste on wildlife and the environment. Coastal Recycling director Richard Marsh says: "This scheme reaches coves and parts of the coastline that otherwise would be unreachable. We share a vision with Till the Coast is Clear to reduce the amount of waste polluting the sea and are delighted to support their project and to ensure that all the waste collected is properly and efficiently recycled.”
