Royal Clarence sold to new owners
Exeter's beloved Royal Clarence Hotel is finally set to be restored to its former glory.
England's oldest hotel was destroyed in a devastating fire back in October 2016 with its remains later demolished.
Local firm NooKo has announced plans to redevelop the site, creating a mix of residential and commercial units.
Known for successfully restoring other historic Exeter buildings like Paternoster House and Concord House, NooKo will build upon the plans previously developed by Akkeron Group, which were unanimously approved by city planners.
Akkeron will retain a long lease on the ground floor and basement commercial units.
The rebuild will prioritise the preservation of the hotel's historic charm while incorporating modern amenities.
"Like most people in Exeter we want to bring this iconic building back to life," said NooKo Director James Porter. "We aim for The Royal Clarence to be a cherished landmark for future generations."
Construction is set to begin in April 2025 and is expected to take two years.
