The number of parents in Devon issued with fines for taking their children out of school has more than doubled in a year.
Devon's local education authority say that nearly 1,200 penalties have so far been handed out for the current academic year.
The figure was just 532 for 2013-2014.
Nationally, more than 16,000 parents in England were prosecuted last year because their children missed school.
That's a rise of a quarter on 2013.
Local authorities say schools are being stricter on parents because of pressure from the inspector, Ofsted.
