But rate in community is rising too
Day-by-day, Exeter's coronavirus infection rate has been moving up the national league table. On Friday 9 October, the city had the seventh highest rate in England.
But the majority of cases are at the University of Exeter, where a dedicated testing service was established at the start of term.
The university has instructed students not to mix outside their own households, except in specific situation such as attending lessons, volunteering or taking part in organised sport.
On Friday, Exeter recorded 576 new confirmed cases for the week, a rate of 483 per 100,000 of the general population. However, the non-student rate is 90 per 100,000. That's still much higher than the situation through the summer.
