Exeter is to bid for one and a half million pounds to boost the local arts and cultural scene. But the city will be up against the rest of the country for a share of the funding pot
Under the Great Places funding scheme, 12 pilot areas will be given money to invest in arts and cultural activities.
And Exeter's hoping to be one of them.
The city council will work with the Exeter Cultural Partnership to put together an application arguing that the area has a vibrant cultural scene which could be further developed, and it could also link up with organisations in other areas of Devon.
The bid is being supported by local MP Ben Bradshaw, the National Trust and leaders of arts, heritage, tourism and cultural organisations.
