Visitors asked to stay away during crisis
These are unusual times indeed. The people normally imploring visitors to come to the south west are asking them to stay away -for the sake of everyone's health.
Tourism is one of the key engine-drivers of the region's economy, but nothing is more important right now than public safety. The appeal for visitors to stay at home - and not come to Devon even if they own a holiday home or have pre-booked holiday accommodation - is founded on government advice. Quite simply, a holiday or short-break isn't essential travel, and that's all we should be doing right now.
Salcombe mayor Nikki Turton says: "We can't really stop them coming, but we wish they were doing as we are doing; staying home, staying safe protecting our vulnerable and not putting extra strain where it's not needed."
