Devoncast: A load of ballots!

Election preview, Plymouth tree latest, and a book vending machine

With less than a week to go until the local elections we hear from the key players bidding to win your vote.

Leaders and representatives of the main parties in Exeter, Plymouth and Torbay give us their best minute-long sales pitches ahead of polling day on Thursday, 4 May.

Meanwhile, a week in politics is always a long time, so we hear about yet more developments in Plymouth over the controversial tree felling and why campaigners who tried to protect them have some small reason to celebrate.

We also find out about a new vending machine for books at Exeter St David’s which has been given the support of children’s author, Sir Michael Morpurgo.

The famous Penguin Books was dreamed up at the station by Sir Allen Lane in 1935. He decided to start the publishing house after he couldn’t find anything to read whilst waiting for a train.

Sir Michael speaks to us about the new initiative, which will support Exeter’s City of Literature.

And … what happens when you mix politicians with music? You can find out in this week’s Devoncast. Click here to listen.
