Devon names in King's honours list

The full list of Devon people who have been recognised

People from around Devon have been named on the King’s Birthday honours list. 

Among those named is Professor Judith Irene Petts CBE, Vice-Chancellor, University of Plymouth, she has been awarded Dames Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for services to Higher Education and Sustainability. 

This comes just ahead of her retirement, which will be in the autumn. 

Mark Peter Louden Dowie, who is from Kingsbridge and the Chief Executive of, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution has been awarded a CBE for services to Maritime Safety. Also among the recipients is Moira Marder DL, from Newton Abbott, the Chief Executive Officer, of Ted Wragg Trust.  She has been awarded an OBE for services to Education. 

Moria Marder said she was “overwhelmed but delighted to receive this honour.

I believe fiercely in the role education has to play in transforming young people’s futures, no matter their background.”

Carol Boys from Newton Abbott, has been awarded an OBE for services to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and to Research. (

Paul James Whiteley, for services to the community in Plymouth, Devon. (Plymouth, Devon)

Michael Charles Williams, Wetland Habitat Restoration Specialist, Environment Agency, for services to Conservation and to Natural Flood Management. (Exeter, Devon)

Alexander Peter Walmsley, Chair of Trustees, The First Federation Trust, Newton Abbot, Devon, for services to Education. (Newton Abbot, Devon)

Neil George Parsons, Boxing Coach, for services to Sport. (Exmouth, Devon)
