Cyclist fights for life after Bridge Road crash

White van driver may have witnessed collision

The driver of a white Ford transit van could have witnessed a horror crash in Exeter on Friday that left a cyclist fighting for his life.

A pensioner in his seventies was knocked off his bike at around 3.30pm by a black Audi Q5 on Bridge Road near to the junction with Countess Wear.

The local man from Exeter, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital.

The Audi driver, who is also in his seventies and from Dawlish, wasn't hurt.

Police closed the road for around six hours to carry out an examination of the scene, leading to traffic chaos around the city, including on the M5.

Officers are particularly keen to hear from the van driver who stopped to help. They would also like anyone with dash cam footage to get in touch.
