Police want to catch people who start them
Devon and Somerset Fire Service have announced most of the south west are now on a amber alert for wildfires.
With the warm weather we have been having set to end and thunderstorms possible this weekend. The red and amber regions in the index above indicate high or very high chance of fire. With the initial spread set to reach danger high conditions particularly in cut grass and crops. And set to spread across the region with the change in wind speed and direction.
Devon and Cornwall police are offering advice too. Their rural affairs team want everyone to recognise the risk and to protect the countryside, wildlife and livestock. The ask people to avoid barbecues and debris burning and be alert sources of ignition such as vehicles and discarded cigarettes.
They want to catch people suspicious responsible for wildfires and are asking for anyone seeing anything suspicious to call 999 in an emergency or email 101@dc.police.uk.
