Alleged discrimination at game with fans
On the night a Champions League match was abandoned in Paris because of an allegation of racism against a match official, an allegation of discrimination has been made at a football match in Devon.
A member of the crowd watching the EFL Trophy match between Exeter City and Northampton Town - the first game at St James Park to welcome fans since March - is alleged to have made a discriminatory comment. The nature of that comment hasn't been disclosed.
In a statement, Exeter City FC says: "The comment was aimed towards a visiting player and was reported to the referee who spoke to a player on each side and both managers.
“The club works tirelessly to make sure that Exeter City is an inclusive and diverse club, and that St James Park is welcoming to everyone, regardless of race, identity, gender, sexual orientation or disability. Discrimination is not welcome at our club.”
"Exeter City takes a zero-tolerance policy on this matter and the club is working with the Police, Northampton Town and the match officials to get a better understanding of the incident and take the matter further."
Exeter lost the match 2-1.
