Has your child's made the list?

Starting in April, children at selected schools in Devon and throughout England will be heading to lessons on full stomachs, as part of a government initiative to combat child poverty.

The "early adopters" scheme was launched by Labour last year and aims to provide pupils with a nutritious meal and supervision for half an hour before the start of the school day.

Around 750 state primary schools across England have been chosen to participate in the pilot, which is expected to run until July before a potential national rollout.

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson emphasized that the breakfast clubs address the link between socioeconomic background and educational attainment.

"Alongside our plans to roll out school-based nurseries and get thousands more children school-ready, this Government is delivering the reforms needed to give every child, wherever they grow up, the best start in life," she stated.

Headteachers union NAHT has welcomed the expansion but has concerns regarding potential funding shortfalls which they want addressed before a national rollout is considered.
