£1 for this landmark building!

It could become a mix of college space and rental flats

A landmark building on Plymouth city centre could become part of a college campus.

Councillors and officers vacated the former civic centre in 2015 and it has been empty ever since.

Trendy apartment and commercial property developer Urban Splash bought the property, reportedly for £1, but not much has happened, and now the council is planned to buy it back, for the same sum.

The 15-storey building is a grade II listed building, which limits the alterations that can be made.

Once it is back under council ownership, the plan is to lease three floors of it to Plymouth City College.

Other parts of the tower will provide 144 private rented apartments, built by either the council or a private firm.

A council report said it had received £19 million in grants, but other costs could be about £51million.
