New £11 million centre for Exeter College

Top IT courses should attract students from across region

Exeter College is to benefit from a new £11-million digital and data centre on its main Hele Road site.

The new building will provide students with courses on data analytics, cyber security and software management, alongside working with organisations like the Met Office.

The South West Institute of Science and Technology has government funding to support projects across Devon, including this data centre at Exeter College along with a new computer hub at the University of Exeter.

This is just one of a five phase development programme which will see Exeter College’s grade two listed tower demolished and replaced with smaller sites.

Exeter College was selected to teach T-Levels earlier this year: A-Level equivalent courses in IT and construction.

Exeter College principal John Laramy says: “South West Institute Of Technology has been supported by employers and our key aim is to ensure that the employers in the locality are able to access the right training to support their staff and business. The SWIOT is a true example of a partnership where education and industry have been able to work together to create something special”
