Radio Exe reporter is Next Generation award-winner

Radio Exe's Josh Tate with his Exeter Chamber Next Generation Impact award

Exeter Chamber honours Josh Tate, 18

A Devon teenager who became nationally recognised as 'Britain's youngest newsreader' has been recognised for his work in making a positive impact or difference to Exeter or the Greater Exeter Area.

Josh Tate started his broadcasting career at the age of 16 when he started reading news on Devon's commercial station Radio Exe.

Now business organisation Exeter Chamber has awarded him its inaugural Next Gen title at its annual Insight awards.

It recognises individuals under 30 at the start of their career, and who is someone to watch in the future.

Since joining Radio Exe, Mr Tate has interviewed sports stars and cabinet ministers, covered sports fixtures in Devon and national stadia at Twickenham and Wembley, and achieved two level 3 qualifications, one in media at Exeter College, and one a journalism course supervised by Radio Exe.

After collecting his award, he said: “It was surreal to win the Exeter Chamber Next Generation award and it motivates me to work harder, so I can not only reach my goal of being a sports and news broadcaster but also enhance my skills at Radio Exe.

‘It was an incredible surprise to win this award, as I didn’t know I was nominated until a few days before the event!  It’s an honour to be recognised for some of the work I have achieved over the past couple of years.

"I would love to thank Vertu Land Rover for sponsoring and everyone at Radio Exe for making moments like this possible.

"I just hope this can motivate more young people around Exeter to get involved in what our city and the Exeter Chamber of Commerce has to offer.”
